Banks and ATMs
As you drive in from the north, you will find a Stadtsparkasse branch; there is also a Deutsche Bank at the university canteen.


Board of Directors
The Board of Directors manages the Düsseldorf University Hospital, representing the hospital in legal affairs inside and outside court, and making all decisions not allocated to the Supervisory Committee according to the Articles of the University Hospital. Contact


Counselling in the hospital
Catholic and Lutheran counselling service staff are available for you day and night. They will be happy to help if you need to talk to somebody, need someone to visit you or to arrange a contact person. They will always be happy to give you their support. You can reach them directly by telephone (+49 (211) 81-17218), or ask the ward staff to help you.


Data protection
Data collected on patient admission will be saved in the computer centre of the hospital. Needless to say, all of your personal data will be completely and thoroughly protected under Germany’s Data Protection Act.

As a maximum care hospital, Düsseldorf University Hospital is a byword for medical treatment, research and training excellence. Hairdresser
The nearest hairdresser is on the Himmelgeisterstrasse, a five minute walk from the hospital.


How to get here
The hospital can easily be reached by car, or by using the excellent public transport services. More information can be found at Transportation.


If you’re bringing someone with you
Most of the clinics have temporary accommodation facilities. If you are bringing someone with you, board and lodging will cost €45 per day. Your health insurance may cover all or part of your guests accommodation costs (please check with your insurance company).


Interpreters
If you are not able to speak German, English, or French, we will arrange for an interpreter whenever possible.


Key treatment areas
Key treatment areas within the University Hospital include cardiovascular disease, hepatology and infectiology, diabetes and other metabolic diseases, interdisciplinary oncology with haematology and stem cell transplantation, the Trauma Centre, geriatrics, Paediatric Centre including paediatric surgery and the West German Mandible Clinic. Library
Once a week, an employee from the town library will visit the wards with a wide range of books. You can also visit our library which is located in building 17.12 near the main entrance to the Mandible Clinic.


Medicines
Medicines are provided or prescribed by your physician. Only use your own medicines in agreement with your physician.


Newspapers
Our hospital’s shops are located in the basement in the Surgery Clinic (building 12.46) and in the MNR-Clinic (building 13.50). You can buy newspapers here. The main railway station is the best place to buy international newspapers.


Optional services
On admission to the hospital, you can also take advantage of a number of additional services in order to make your individual treatment more suited to your requirements. The optional services include, for example, treatment by the chief consultant or accommodation in a single-bed ward. These additional services will be billed separately. Further information


Orientation
The hospital has a very thorough orientation guide system throughout the facilities. You will find plans of the facilities and orientation leaflets at every entrance. Apart from that, there are plans of the facilities at all central locations.


Parking
The hospital has limited short-stay parking facilities for visitors. There are more places to park outside the hospital; the hospital is easy to reach on foot from there. There is a public pay & display car park near the northern entrance on the Moorenstrasse. You can also use the free parking facilities at the southern entrance.


Pets
For hygienic reasons, pets are not allowed within any hospital facility.


Private laundry
Unfortunately, your private clothing cannot be laundered in the hospital. Please ask the ward staff about nearby laundry services.


Quality management
New financing forms in Germany’s health system, medical and technological progress, an ageing population as well as the expansion of the European Union have placed new demands on clinics. This requires clear positioning, especially through quality improvement in the hospital. Further information


Shopping
A grocery shop is situated outside the main clinic near the tram stop for the Mandible Clinic (Kieferklinik). The nearest department stores are approximately ten minutes away via public transport. Please ask a member of the ward staff for further details.


Social services
The social services at the hospital will help you and your family with social, financial, and personal problems that may arise due to your illness or disablement. If you would like contact with an employee of the social services, our ward staff will be glad to arrange it for you. Further information


Taxi
You will find a taxi rank at the main entrance to the hospital and at the entrance to the MNR-Clinic. Apart from that, direct telephone connections have been installed at the entrance area of the Surgical Clinic, Orthopaedic Clinic, and MNR-Clinic. You can call a taxi from here; the call is free. The fare for a taxi ride into the downtown area of Düsseldorf (Königsallee) is about nine euros.


Temporary leave from the ward
Under exceptional circumstances, you may be given leave from the ward. However, this will only take place with the agreement of your doctor.


TV and radio
You can listen to a choice of two radio stations (via headphones) in any of the wards. Patients in the Surgical, Orthopaedic, MNR, Neurosurgical and Neurological Clinics can watch one of two TV stations from their beds. We also have plans to equip all the remaining wards with TV sets. Since all of the wards have a TV aerial connection, you can also use your own TV set, or rent one.                                                                       On demand, you can also have access to different speaking channels.


Valuables
We at the hospital do our best to protect the facilities against unauthorised access, but it is still best to leave your valuables at home. Otherwise, you can hand in any valuables that you may have brought in at the cash desk (building 11.72) for safekeeping. The cash desk is open on Mondays to Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and from 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.
