ABCG8 ist Teil des Cholesterintransporters ABCG5/ABCG8, der im Gallekanalikulus der Leberzellen lokalisiert ist und die Ausscheidung von Cholesterin in die Galle fördert. Vorliegen des ABCG8 p.D19H Polymorphismus (c.55G>C) prädispositioniert für die Entwicklung von Gallensteinen (Odds Ratio 2-3).
