Postdoc Position

(HHU Düsseldorf, Germany)

At the Institute of Toxicology at the Medical Faculty of the Heinrich Heine University a postdoc position (TV-L13; 100 %) in the field of molecular and genetic toxicology/pharmacology is available. The vacant position is funded for two years by the German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe) and can be filled immediately.

Job description: The translational research project aims to characterize the pathophysiological relevance of the Ras-homologous small GTPase Rac1 expressed in different cardiac cell types for acute and delayed cardiotoxic effects evoked by the antitumor drug doxorubicin. This conventional anticancer drug is used as a first line compound in the therapy of breast cancer and other malignancies. As irreversible cardiotoxicity is the major dose-limiting adverse effect of this drug, cardioprotective strategies are highly preferable. Hence, the aim of the project is to validate Rac1 as a therapeutic target in order to widen the therapeutic window of anthracyclines, thereby improving both the therapeutic efficacy of anticancer therapy and the quality of life of cancer patients. To this end (i) in vitro studies using different primary mouse cardiac cell types will be performed and, moreover (ii) transgenic mouse models that are characterized by a cell-type specific deletion of rac1 will be employed for a detailed analysis of their response to anthracycline treatment.

Qualifications: PhD in the field of biology, biochemistry, cell biology, toxicology/pharmacology or related scientific domain. Strong theoretical background in molecular and cellular biology and/ genetic toxicology/pharmacology are required. Disposition to perform animal experiments is essential and hands-on experience with animal models would be preferable.

Applications including letter of motivation, Curriculum vitae, certificates, list of publications and the name of two references should be sent electronically to bennat@uni-duesseldorf.de (Deadline: October 15th, 2019).
