The establishment of the institute represents an important step towards the internationalisation of the division of tropical medicine and infectious diseases at the department in Düsseldorf. International workshops offer opportunities for this at regular intervals. Part of the additional training in tropical medicine for Düsseldorf physicians also takes place in Asella. In return, Ethiopian physicians are also offered the opportunity for further training through joint workshops and exchange activities. Participation in teaching rounds, lectures and seminars, as well as an ultrasound training programme are established.

German students have the opportunity to carry out clinical placements or internships in Asella. There is also the possibility to do a medical dissertation.

For Ethiopian scientists, on the other hand, we regularly offer Master's theses at the Institute. In addition, three Ethiopian researchers have already successfully participated in the international PhD programme of the Medical Faculty of the Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf with research stays in Düsseldorf.
