The interdisciplinary Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf is headed by Falko Schmid (responsible for the technological and methodological aspects) and Dr. med. Hug Aubin (responsible for the medical aspects). Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf researches at the interface of clinical use cases and research-oriented technology development. Our work is focused on immediate benefits for patients and physicians to exploit the full potential of digitalization in health. The focus of Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf is on the development of patient-oriented solutions to improve the education of physicians, to improve multidirectional communication between medical experts and patients, and to assist physicians with diagnosis, treatment and care.

Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf uses immersive technologies such as mixed and virtual reality, 3D visualizations, dedicated interaction devices and methods of artificial intelligence to develop user-centered, intuitive assistance systems. At the heart of these systems is the development and research of social interaction, interaction methods and understandable visualizations.

Univ. Dr. med. Artur Lichtenberg has been W3 Professor and Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf since 2009. He is the author of numerous scientific publications on clinical and basic research and an internationally recognized expert in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and cardiovascular tissue engineering. As initiator and founder of the Digital Health Lab Düsseldorf, he is particularly committed to the development and research in the field of digital applications in medicine.iness and research.

Dr. Falko Schmid is computer scientist and expert in user-centered assistance systems in various domains. He has more than 15 years of experience in academic and applied industrial research with a focus on AR / VR / Wearables, Human Machine Interaction (HCI), Spatial Cognition and AI. Falko Schmid advises ministries, agencies and companies on questions of digitalization and the role and impact of technology on the work of the future.

PD Dr. med. Hug Aubin, MHBA is Senior Physician at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery where he heads the Department of Mechanical Circulatory Support. H. Aubin is Ernst-Rainer de Vivie- (2012) and Ernst-Derra-Award winner (2018) of the German Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (DGTHG) for special research achievements in the field of cardiovascular regenerative medicine. As co-founder of the Digital Health Lab, H. Aubin is particularly interested in the use of innovative digital technologies in patient care.

MSc Ali Fadavie is a software developer with experience in applied research and development. He has a masters degree in computer graphics and more than 7 years experience in computer science, programming languages and various development platforms - especially in computer graphics and augmented reality.
