Training the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals in Ethiopia is a core mission of GHIDA. Ethiopian students, physicians, and researchers are fully integrated into clinical and scientific activities, gaining access to advanced diagnostics, research methodologies, and international academic networks. GHIDA supports academic career development through structured research training and international collaborations. To date, three Ethiopian researchers have successfully completed PhD programmes at the Faculty of Medicine of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. Through the STAIRS programme, two additional researchers are currently pursuing PhD degrees at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the University Hospital Düsseldorf. GHIDA also provides scientific guidance and bioinformatics expertise to PhD students of the EpiGen Ethiopia project.

GHIDA promotes bidirectional knowledge exchange by offering physicians from Germany clinical rotations required for specialization in tropical medicine. During their stay in Asella, physicians gain hands-on experience with regionally prevalent infectious diseases while contributing to clinical care, teaching, seminars, case discussions, and diagnostic training.

Medical students from Germany can undertake clinical electives, internships, and parts of their final practical year (PJ) at GHIDA. Students also have the opportunity to conduct medical doctoral theses within ongoing clinical and epidemiological research projects. Through these programmes, GHIDA strengthens sustainable research capacity, fosters equitable international partnerships, and prepares the next generation of healthcare professionals for Global Health challenges.
