Die Arbeitsgruppe „Endokrine Pankreastumoren“ beschäftigt sich zusammen mit dem Institut für Pathologie des Universitätsklinikums Kiel mit den unterschiedlichem Manifestationsformen des organischen Hyperinsulinismus. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf der Existenz, Inzidenz, Diagnostik, Therapie und Prognose von non-MEN-1 assoziierten-/Mikro-/Makro-Adenomatosen und adulten Nesidioblastosen.    

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Arbeitsgruppe ist die Erforschung immunhistochemisch nachweisbarer Prognosemarker bei endokrinen Pankreastumoren. Gegenstand der laufenden Untersuchungen sind Antikörper wie PTEN, CD99, Ghrelin, Ep-CAM, Notch oder Histone. Zusätzlich erfolgt die Etablierung maligner Insulinom-Zelllinien mit dem Ziel neue Immuntherapien (z.B. monoklonaler AK CO17-1A) für die Behandlung des inoperablen malignen Insulinoms zu finden.

Die starke Vergrößerung deckt kleine periduktale Inselkomplexe auf, die Zellen mit hypertrophischen Nuclei (Pfeile in C) enthalten. (D) Reguläre Erscheinung von Inselzellen einer Kontrollprobe von einem Patienten ohne Nesidioblastose.

Die immunhistochemische Färbung für Insulin (E) und Somatostatin (F) zeigt ein quantitativ normales Verteilungsmuster der beiden Hormone in den Inseln. Die endokrinen Zellen mit den vergrößerten Nuclei sind positiv für Insulin (Pfeil in E), aber nicht für Somatostatin (Pfeil in F).
