Dr. Pascal Massion presenting on the sequencing activities in Asella

DFG Meeting in Lomé, Togo

As part of the German Research Foundation (DFG)'s efforts to strengthen scientific collaboration between Germany and francophone Africa, Dr. Pascal Massion was invited by the DFG to participate in the 7th Scientific Days of the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education (CAMES), held in Lomé, Togo. He presented the results from the first Data from Oxford Nanopore Sequencing in Asella.
The meeting provided an excellent platform for exchanging ideas with researchers, academic institutions, and funding organizations from across francophone Africa. Dr. Massion attended the conference together with Dr. Rolf Fendel (German Center for Infection Research, DZIF), Dr. Katarina Stete (Infectious Disease Department, University Freiburg), and Katrin Knodel (German Research Foundation, DFG).
A central objective of the visit was to strengthen scientific partnerships between German institutions and the francophone African research community in preparation for the Conference on Tropical Medicine and Global Health (CTM 2027), which will be held in Würzburg, Germany.
During the discussions, a joint initiative was developed to promote participation of early-career researchers from francophone Africa at CTM 2027. Through DFG support, five travel scholarships will be awarded to outstanding scientists from francophone African countries, enabling them to attend the conference, present their research, establish new collaborations, and expand their international scientific networks.
