EpiGen Consortium Meeting

Representatives of GHIDA participated in the Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) summit and the EpiGen Ethiopia Consortium Meeting in Addis Abeba in June 2026. Anna Rommerskirchen, bioinformatician and co-principal investigator of the study, Prof. Tafese Tufa and Dr. Carla Ackermann represented GHIDA at both events.

The EIDM Summit took place from 23 to 25 June 2026 at the Adwa Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa. It provided a national platform for presenting scientific evidence and discussing its translation into public health policy and practice. The EpiGen Ethiopia consortium showcased its ongoing work through an oral presentation and seven scientific posters covering pathogen genomics, bioinformatics, workforce development and evidence generation for public health.

Following the summit, the annual EpiGen Ethiopia Consortium Meeting was held on 26 June 2026 at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute. Consortium partners, researchers and PhD students came together to review progress, exchange scientific findings and discuss priorities for the next phase of the project. Research areas presented during the meeting included drug-resistant tuberculosis, cholera, antimicrobial resistance, rabies, malaria, Shigella, typhoidal Salmonella, measles, rotavirus and other enteric viruses. The consortium’s 13 PhD students presented updates on their respective projects.
