STAIRS Citizen Engagement Workshop in Adama

From July 16 to 18, 2025, a three-day capacity-building workshop on sepsis diagnosis and treatment was held at the Dire International Hotel in Adama, Ethiopia, as part of the STAIRS project. Organized by the College of Health Sciences at Arsi University and the Hirsch Institute for Tropical Medicine, the event brought together representatives from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, the Oromia Regional Health Bureau, and project partners from Uganda and Germany.

In addition to specialist presentations on the population's right to information and prevention strategies, the focus was on the adequate treatment of patients and the role of politicians and medical staff. Group work and discussions served to strengthen the role of society and health care personnel in the detection and treatment of sepsis. The aim was to expand cooperation and improve the education and management of sepsis in sub-Saharan Africa in the long term.
