EDCTP Forum 2025 in Kigali, Ruanda

From 15–20 June 2025, our Team participated in the 12th EDCTP Forum, held at the Kigali Convention Centre under the theme “Better health through global research partnerships.” The event, organized by Global Health EDCTP3 and the EDCTP Association in collaboration with the Rwanda Ministry of Health and the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, brought together over 1,600 participants from 76 countries, including researchers, policymakers, funders, regulators, and civil society representatives.
Our participation provided an excellent opportunity to connect with international partners, present our ongoing work, and explore potential future collaborations. The forum program was highly diverse, including plenary and parallel sessions, scientific workshops, symposia, and networking opportunities such as mentoring sessions and “Meet the Experts.” Furthermore, Anna Rommerskirchen presented a poster with the results from the genomic surveillance of measles virus in Asella.

Key thematic areas covered at the Forum included:
• Antimicrobial resistance and global strategies to address it
• Equitable research partnerships with a strong emphasis on African leadership
• Digital health and artificial intelligence for clinical research
• Climate change and health challenges in Africa
• Presentation of outcomes from EDCTP2 and EDCTP3 projects

Overall, our participation highlighted the importance of strong Africa–Europe partnerships and confirmed the relevance of our ongoing projects in the global health research agenda.
