Teaching

Passing on medical and scientific knowledge and working methods in teaching makes an important contribution to the sustainable care and promotion of the health of children and young people.

We are currently involved in the following teaching events:

Elective subject medicine – lecture series on children, health, society

The lecture series gives students an introduction to population-based research on the care and public health of children and adolescents. The focus is on the special requirements for the processes and quality in the medical care of children, but also the health situation of children, influencing factors and options for prevention and health promotion within and outside the medical system. These topics are important for aspiring doctors who come into contact with children as patients not only in pediatrics, but also in general medicine, urology, ENT, dermatology, etc. For students, health services research also offers an opportunity for applied dissertation topics that represent an alternative to basic and clinical research.

Elective subject medicine - Learn how to read, write and publish academically systematically

Understanding and writing scientific texts are important core skills that are often assumed to a certain extent, but rarely explicitly learned or trained. There are a whole range of tools and techniques that can support both the critical evaluation of articles as well as writing and the writing process. The seminar is therefore dedicated to a low-threshold introduction to the world of scientific texts (articles, guidelines, doctoral theses, etc.) and in particular also offers a step-by-step introduction to writing your own first scientific texts (e.g. for specialist articles, exposés, written examination papers, doctoral theses). In addition, the publication system and the peer review process for publishing are explained.

Elective subject medicine - Successfully plan and implement scientific projects in healthcare and prevention research

The successful implementation of research projects in health care and prevention research (e.g. as part of a doctorate) requires good conceptual planning, good project management and an understanding of basic methods. The seminar offers structured support in the conception and implementation of research projects: from the development of the topic and research question to the creation of an exposé, ethics application, data collection and the writing of the doctoral thesis or project report. The aim of the seminar is to provide participants with structured support in the planning and implementation of their research project, to impart core methodological skills to them and thus to give them confidence in the implementation of their scientific project.
