Professor Freia De Bock

Head of department and university professor for child health services research in childhood and adolescence with a focus on child protection in medicine

Freia De Bock has been a full university professor for child health services research with a focus on child protection in medicine at HHU (more information) and the UKD since 2022. She is a specialist in paediatrics with a specialization in social and developmental paediatrics and a habilitation in Child Public Health at the University of Heidelberg. In addition to her medical qualifications, Ms. De Bock has a broad range of qualifications and in-depth methodological skills in the field of health services research and public health thanks to the Clinical Effectiveness Program at Harvard University and a Master of Public Health degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

One afternoon a week, she provides medical care for children and families as part of a developmental and socio-pediatric consultation in the socio-pediatric center of the Clinic for General Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology and Neonatology at the UKD.

From 2010-2016, she was a Margarete von Wrangell Program Excellence Fellow in Baden-Württemberg and worked in social pediatrics at the SPC Frankfurt-Mitte until 2016. From 2008-2018, she led scientific research groups at the Mannheim Institute for Public Health (Heidelberg University) and the IMBEI (Mainz University) in addition to her clinical work. From 2018-2022, she headed the Department of Effectiveness and Efficiency of Health Education at the Federal Center for Health Education and thus also has applied health policy experience and networks.
