Development of a screening to prevent and identify the risk of neglect in the school entry examination

Development of a screening tool to prevent and protect against childhood neglect. STOPP CHILD NEGLECT - SCIN

Neglect in early childhood has so far played a subordinate role in the school entry examination (SEE) and is not recorded in a standardized way. However, school doctors and nurses from the public health department repeatedly come across suspected cases of neglect. They are also certain that there is a high number of unreported cases that need to be reduced.

As part of a cooperation with the Düsseldorf Health Department, we are considering how to operationalize neglect within the SEE.

The long-term goal is to survey neglect in the context of SEE from both a school and parental perspective and then present the results at population level. In this way, they can serve as a basis for decision-making with regard to the necessity of needs-based support for families via the focal point of kindergarten.
