"VerNetzt" – Recognizing stress in the care of children and young people and supporting networking

People's health is influenced from birth by their living conditions and circumstances. For example, children who grow up with a lower socioeconomic status have a higher risk of physical and mental health problems and more frequent visits to emergency rooms and inpatient hospital admissions. When acute health complaints are treated in hospital, social burdens associated with the complaints often go unrecognized or are not systematically recorded. Hospital stays or appointments at an outpatient clinic, for example, offer a window of opportunity for the (early) identification of social stress and the initiation of counseling and further help for affected families. “VerNetzt” aims to further develop and culturally adapt an existing Canadian parent questionnaire for the systematic identification of social stress in pediatric clinics and associated outpatient clinics through reviews and German-language research as well as a Delphi study with experts. It is then planned to test the instrument in the Clinic for General Pediatrics, Neonatology and Pediatric Cardiology. The project is being carried out in close cooperation with the social services of Düsseldorf University Hospital.
