For a third-party funded research project at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene at the University Hospital of the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf we are looking for

- A doctoral candidate in the natural sciences

Our work focuses on the relationship between microbiome and disease, the development of applications in diagnostics and research, new sequencing technologies and bioinformatic and statistical modelling.

The current project focuses on the assembly and characterisation of microbial communities (‘mock-communities’). For this purpose, different bacterial species are cultivated in different compositions. These bacterial communities are characterised using various sequencing methods and data pipelines. The data obtained in this way are important for possible diagnostics and allow targeted experimental approaches to the microbial communities.

Applicants should have a Master's degree in natural sciences (or equivalent) in the field of life sciences with very good results

We offer

- A dynamic, challenging and collegial working environment in a large working group

- Interdisciplinary collaboration and supportive supervision

- Structured support in meetings, seminars and lectures in the working groups and at the institute

We expect

- Interest in and critical engagement with the project

- Interest in microbiological/sequencing methods and data pipelines

- Development and advancement of experimental questions

- Participation in the exchange and cooperation in the working groups

Please send your detailed application to Prof. A. Dilthey (alexander.dilthey@med.uni-duesseldorf.de) or PD Dr Dr P. Finzer (patrick.finzer@uni-duesseldorf.de)
